Deborah ScottJul 31 min readStatement from Georgia STAND-UP CEO on MARTA’S Decision on the Closing of Five Point StationToday’s decision by MARTA to pause the Five Points project is a monumental win for our community. This victory underscores the power of collective action — our voices were heard, and the needs of Black and Brown Atlantans, low-income riders, and people with disabilities were prioritized. The relentless efforts and dedication of Propel ATL and our coalition, along with the support from the community, labor, activists, allies, Mayor Dickens, and city council members who came together to form the 'Coalition of the Willing,' were instrumental in achieving this outcome. Moving forward, it is crucial that MARTA includes more elevators and accessibility features, with genuine community involvement and input from the beginning, and prioritizes Atlantans, not just visitors.Additionally, we must ensure union workers are involved in the process. Together, we can create a more inclusive and reliable transit system for all.Deborah ScottChief Executive OfficerGeorgia STAND-UP
